This program is a low intensity educational program that is operated on a daily basis on a variety of topics including alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD), non-violent conflict resolution, anger management, stress management and other life skills. Groups last 50 minutes to an hour.  This varies depending on the time of year as during the summer hours are increased.     
This program offers services to very high-risk youth in a detention setting.  Consistent with research in crisis theory, the detention experience presents an opportunity to work with difficult youth at a time when the youth are especially amenable to positive change in emotional outlook, behavior, and life situations.

 

Delivery Strategy:

Youth at the Attention Center are provided with the opportunity to attend the group on a regular basis.  The males and females are separated in order to deal with gender specific issues and attitudes.   The youth participate in the program after their school requirements and provides educational information through the various meetings that the youth enjoying participating in.

 

Other Core Features:

The Attention Center Director and Staff have incorporated the facilitator of this program into the Center’s scheduling.  Ms. Hanna is willing to accommodate the schedule as it changes.
